RULES & FAQ: FILM FESTIVAL

1. All official selections must provide the festival with a DCP screener.

​

2. English subtitles must be included in your screener to ensure the inclusivity of our event.

 

3. Open Captioning, Closed Captioning, or Audio Description files are encouraged with your screener in addition to the subtitle requirement for non-English films.

​

4. Entrants are responsible for providing a digital screening copy of their selected project within seven days from notification of acceptance.

​

5. Only completed projects will be considered. If your project is incomplete, you are welcome to submit a cinematic proof-of-concept trailer under our "Other" category.

​

6. Submission fees are nonrefundable.

 

7. Due to circumstances beyond the festival's control, participants will be notified ASAP of any changes to the venue, date, or program schedule.

​

8. The Hollywood Storytellers team is not responsible for travel costs or any expenses associated with attending the festival, including losses due to changes in screening venue, event dates, and program schedule.

​

9. Projects are not eligible if they aired on major US television before the festival event.

​

10. Projects are not eligible if they are available to the public for purchase on DVD or online.

​

11. Judges will only consider the version of your project submitted with your entry fee. If you selected the executive feedback option, you will automatically have another opportunity to submit your revised project for consideration before our final deadline with the "free revised submission waiver code" provided in your feedback evaluation form.

12. Submitting your project does not guarantee festival acceptance or screening.

​

13. Acceptance into the festival does not guarantee an award certificate or grand prize.

​

14. Projects must be submitted through FilmFreeway or another secure online platform. Screeners must be digital and able to download. We do not accept physical DVD screeners.

​

15. Please note that by submitting, you are authorizing Hollywood Storytellers to use you/your project's materials for promotional purposes (film, poster, logline, etc.)

​

16. All copyright, ownership, and rights to the material submitted to the Hollywood Storytellers Film Festival remains with the original rights holders and/or filmmakers.

​

17. By submitting, you authorize that your work is legally cleared for public screening and accept full responsibility for the intellectual property. The submitter and filmmakers associated with the project shall hold harmless Hollywood Storytellers from any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and legal expenses which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, and publicity.

RULES & FAQ: SCRIPT COMPETITION

​1. Scripts that are submitted must be the writer(s) original work, shall not infringe on any copyrights, and must be wholly owned by the writer(s). Material written by writing teams must be submitted by one of the writers, with consent from the other(s). All writers must be credited on the title page.

​

2. All scripts, including international scripts, must be submitted in English as a PDF.

​

3. Every page and word of your submitted script will be read and measured against current professional screenwriting standards.

​

4. Multiple entries from the same submitter are permitted and allowed.

​

5. All decisions made by the competition's judges are final. Results are based on the following industry standard ratings: formatting, structure, spelling, character, plot/story, pacing, dialogue, action, tone, world building, creativity, concept/originality.

​

6. Upon submitting, the competition has the right to promote you/your project/your materials on all of our public and social platforms.

​

7. For Screenplays: Maximum 120 pages. All genres welcome. Eligible to all ages and countries of origin. Must be submitted in English. Must follow industry standard format. Must be sent as a PDF file.

​

8. For TV Pilot Scripts (including short-form, half-hour, and hour-long): Maximum 90 pages. All genres welcome. Eligible to all ages and countries of origin. Must be submitted in English. Must follow industry standard format. Must be sent as a PDF file.

​

9. Submitted scripts must be received by midnight of deadline date and submission fee payments must accompany your material. All entry fees are non-refundable as scripts are immediately put into analysis.

​

10. If a writing team is chosen as a winner, prizes will be given to the writer submitting the project. Each team is responsible for dividing or sharing the prize(s) amongst themselves, with no direction from Hollywood Storytellers Script Competition’s administrators or judges.

​

11. Once your script is received, no revised pages will be considered or accepted. Judges will only consider the version of the script submitted with your entry fee. If you selected the executive feedback option, you will automatically have another opportunity to submit a revised script for consideration before our final deadline. Your "free revised submission waiver code" will be provided at the time you receive your feedback evaluation form.

12. Submission fees are collected by FilmFreeway, Stage 32, and Coverfly. The Hollywood Storytellers Script Competition does not accept cash, check, or money order for submissions. There are no entry fee refunds for any submitted scripts.

​

13. All copyright, ownership and rights to the material submitted to the Hollywood Storytellers Script Competition remains with the original rights holders and/or authors.
